"Our cows are Ladies and we treat them as such."

We keep a small, primarily Jersey herd. The exceptions are our Guernsey Jersey cross named Ginger and our tallest member, Beula. She is a Guernsey Brown Swiss cross.  All of our cows, with the exception of Beula came from an organic herd in Maryland.

Jerseys stand a good 16 inches under most other dairy breeds. We chose to keep Jerseys on account of their size, personlity, beauty and their rich golden milk which can sometimes reach 6 percent butterfat! This is great news for anyone wanting to skim the cream off their milk and make butter, cream cheese, whipped cream or thick wholesome yogurt. The best vitamins in milk are fat soluble; the more cream the more vitamins you are getting.

Jerseys are excellent grazers and thrive on a pasture based diet. We heartily believe in the necessity of “organic”, which is why we strive to feed them grass that has not been sprayed, as well as organic grain, and use organic treatments on our cows.  Our fields are not yet certified, though of course we tend them as though they were. Our herd has been tested for and is free of TB, and brucellosis.
